Examination of Efficiency Dependence on Deceleration Voltage in a Traveling Wave Direct Energy Converter Simulator

As for traveling wave direct energy converter (TWDEC), which was expected to be an efficient recovery device fast protons created in D-3He fusion, efficiency dependence on deceleration voltage examined. A decelerator designed based the theory of constant scheme, ions were trapped a decelerated potential, and simulation experiment performed. Over certain voltage, degraded when increased, contradictive theory. Numerical orbit calculation revealed that ion exhibited bouncing motion very short period exited just after acceleration phase this caused degradation effect. In design decelerator, as well trapping should considered.
